Carlisle is very easily reached from any direction.
By Car, Rail, Coach,Car Hire, Taxi or even Plane.
From the east, Carlisle is linked with Yorkshire and Humberside by the M6, M61, M62. And linked to Newcastle by the A69.
From the south, Carlisle is best reached by the M6 however taking the M1 then the A66 is also an option, for those who are on the east coast.
From the north, Carlisle is easily reachable by the M74/A74 or A7 for those in the north east. You can reach Carlisle from stranraer on the A75 then M74, about a 2 hour journey.
From the west, Carlisle is very well connected to the west coast of Cumbria via the A596, A595 and the B5307 for those directly west of Carlisle.

For rail timetables visit www.networkrail.co.uk, traveling from London Euston to Carlisle takes approximately 4 hours and services run almost hourly. You can travel from Glasgow in around 2 hours and newcastle in around an hour and a half, these services run throughout the day.

Busees from London to Glasgow or Edinburgh, usually stop at Carlisle, although its best to double check. There are regular coaches from Newcastle and Glasgow.
